花排成穗状花序，总状花序或圆锥状花序，具花瓣；雄花的萼片覆瓦状排列，花丝离生或合生，不育雌蕊缺；雌花有时无花瓣，子房3室。蒴果，稀核果。
本族约35属；我国产6属，另栽培2属。
